As most of you already know, tomorrow is the start date for New York Fashion Week for Women, which will last until the 16th of February. If you are as excited as we are, you already have the dates marked on your calendar and if you are very lucky, you might just get to see the shows from the audience or even on the catwalk.
New York Fashion Week for Men has recently ended and it definitely left us with jaw dropping moments. From astronaut Buzz Aldrin walking down the runway to Palomo Spain´s feminine twist on menswear, the shows never ceased to impress us. However, even more exiting moments are in store for us as preparations for New York Fashion Week for Women have already started.
So…What should we expect? Well…Given the fact that Trump is the new US president, the resistance movement has spread through the fashion world. Womenswear designers are set to make political statements on the runway. The CFDA (the official organizer of New York Fashion Week) announced that it was partnering with Planned Parenthood, a program which will probably lose funding under Trump´s administration.
In an attempt to support the case for Planned Parenthood, many fashion designers will be wearing magnetic pink pins with the message “Fashion Stands With Planned Parenthood”. Some pins will also be given to the audience along with a card containing information about how to get in touch with local representatives and how to donate money for the cause.
The fashion designers that are most likely to have #resist messages in their shows, or wear these pins include: Rachel Comey, Marc Jacobs, Proenza Schouler, Opening Ceremony, and Maria Cornejo, because all of them took part in the Women’s March.
Take out your planner and mark reserve a place for New York Fashion Week for Women (9-16 February) as there will be a lot of interesting information that you would not want to miss.
