Valentine’s Day is just behind us. People are not yet done discussing love and all the wonderful things associated with falling in love like the various “firsts” – the first kiss, the first connection, the excitement, the butterflies in the stomach when you see the love of your life…
The list goes on. It’s always wonderful to experience the feeling of being in love.
However, all this excitement doesn’t last throughout any relationship. It’s only during the so called “honeymoon period” of relationships that the spark remains. Especially once you’re married, every couple settle in to their comfort zones and take each other for granted.
That is when a relationship starts demanding work, not just from one side but from both sides of the relationship.
I’m not the only one who says that.
Hollywood actress Scarlett Johansson, who separated from her second husband Romain Dauriac very recently, is also a little down on love lately.
She said that she’s now convinced that monogamy is “not natural” and went on to explain that marriage takes a lot of work.
However, she also accepted the fact that her opinions on love and romance right now might be skewered considering her break up with Romain.
The 32 year old actress told Playboy magazine, “I think the idea of marriage is very romantic; it’s a beautiful idea, and the practice of it can be a very beautiful thing.”
She added, “I don’t think it’s natural to be a monogamous person. I might be skewered for that, but I think it’s work. It’s a lot of work.”
Scarlette and Romain had been married for two years and they have a two year old daughter together – Rose Dorothy.
She was also previously married to Ryan Reynolds for two years, which kind of explains why she must have stopped believing in the concept of monogamy.
She went on to say that marriage definitely changes a relationship and that anyone who says that it’s the same before and after marriage, is lying.
About marriage she also said that while she does respect the concept of marriage, she feels it goes against some instinct to look beyond.
Well, this apparently is not the first time that the actress openly expressed her non-belief in monogamy. In a 2008 Cosmopolitan interview, the star had mentioned that monogamy is not a “natural instinct” while being married to Ryan Reynolds.
Scarlett is not the only celebrity too who is against the idea of monogamy. Cameron Diaz, Emma Thompson and Will Smith have all spoken out against monogamous relationships as well.
