Fashion is one hip and happening industry that fulfills the dreams of a gazillion people all over the world. From designing to modelling to editing to makeup, you name it, the fashion industry houses opportunities for everyone who likes to be associated with fashion.
However, there used to be a time when a certain class of people couldn’t make it big in the industry, just because of the fact that their lives or their sheer being did not conform to commonly accepted norms and practices in the society and the world at large.
I’m talking about transgender models.
Now the scene has completely changed and we, as human beings have used one of our basic and unique characteristics that define our existence – our brains!
I mean we have all finally used our brains and stretched our thoughts enough to accept something that we ourselves had limited for no particular reason.
The world now gets to celebrate transgender beauty as well.
Brazilian model Valentina Sampaio is creating history by making her first appearance on the cover of the March issue of Paris Vogue and she looks stunning.
The March issue is likely to reach stands by February 23rd and it looks like it will create waves in the fashion industry.
The headline on the cover reads: “Transgender Beauty: How They’re Shaking up the World.”
According to the editor-in-chief Emmanuelle Alt, “Valentina is on the cover of Vogue this month, not just for her looks or her sparkling personality, but because despite herself she embodies an age-old, arduous struggle to be recognized and not to be perceived as something Other, a gender exile,”
The magazine revealed their cover on Instagram as well with a well put caption that said “This month we are proud to celebrate transgender beauty and how models like Valentina Sampaio, who is posing for her first ever Vogue cover, are changing the face of fashion and deconstructing prejudice.”
I am sure the story will be one that is thought provoking and inspiring for every single one of us.
While it is truly heart-warming to think that the we are about to see some exciting changes in fashion from now on, it is also true what the editor-in-chief had to say about her decision to cast Valentina; “only when a transgender person poses on the front cover of a fashion magazine and it is no longer necessary to write an editorial on the subject will we know the battle is won.”
I’m sure that day is not far though. Let’s all wait in hope.
