Balmain goes rock @Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week has many reasons to keep us talking about and Balmain’s Fall/ Winter 2017 collection did not cease to impress us. For those who do not know yet, fashion designer Olivier Rousteing is a big fan of wolves, glitter, crystals and crocodile pelts. As a result, his fashion show was one full of impressive pieces.

For the Fall/ Winter 2017, the fashion designer took his inspiration from famous rock band, Nirvana. If you would ask us, however, we think quite the opposite. The thrift store style and the ferocious sound of this 90’s band contrast with the ostentatious extravagant direction that the brand has adopted under the direction of Olivier Rousteing.

What the fashion designer is known for is his preference for models that have big personalities, allowing them to come to life on the catwalk. This fashion show had A-list supermodels to open and close it with a”bang”.

Balmain’s presentation was opened by “it” girl Gigi Hadid and it was closed by no other than world famous supermodel and Gigi’s best friend, Kendall Jenner. It included the brand’s signature super tight embellished pieces along with a variety of loose-fit T-shirts and a couple of other oversized outwear pieces.

The materials were also unique and we could see exotic snakeskin on thigh high boots, meanwhile cow and zebra prints embellished a range of luxurious coats. However, the fashion designer did not stray away from his usual color palette and, as usual, it seemed like he was somehow challenging what is commonly accepted as good taste by adding in what would be the fashion equivalent of junk food.

Balmain is known to go big and frankly, the brand did it again. Not only did it impress us with the designs, but choosing A-list supermodels to open and close the runway show was a great strategic move by the brand.
